College Schmollege weekend and views for next year
College Schmollege:
Started off the day a little different then we normally would. We woke up EARLY and were the FIRST ones at the tournament. We got their early to set up stretch and work on our zone in the wind. We started out sloppily but we were just waking up and warming up. The wind started out strong but then died down to what we are used to. Our first game started out against SUNY Albany where we played strong and came out amped but just didnt have enough ampedness to defeat that team and we fell after half 15-7 or something similar to that.
Our second game was against our friends SUNY Purchase. We got amped because we have beat this team before and we knew we could do that again plus we played for fun rather then to win the game. If we play to have fun like we did during this game we would be unstoppable against alot of these teams. We took the lead 2-1 but then that cam back 4-2 and we played our hardest to take half 8-6. Us taking half was the best thing that could have happened to us. After half we shut them down and we finished the game 15-6, which is in my opinion the best we have played in a while. After game shenanigans occured as always and the purchase guys pants alot of people except for this one dude from oneonta that pants himself and was running around screaming "they got me". It was alot of fun. Charlie got 4 layout pantsings on mitch and Ben didnt have to take the "insta jack formula" because his hucks were beautiful 85% of the time. Our offense really played well and had great flow, while our D was as strong as ever.
Our third game was against Ursinus, and we were a little too happy about our win over Purchase that we let them walk all over us for tem to take half 8-4. During half we had a strong inspirational speech from Ben that pumped us up and made me want to play my ass off to pull off a come back win. I got on the field and i didnt want to get off until either the game was over or i couldnt move anymore. we came back within 3 to where the game could have been ours but we could not pull threw. OUr last point i believe was a beautiful hammer that i threw to Ben. Anyway the game ended with a final score of 15-10. We played hard in the second half and it tired us out for our fourth and final game of day 1.
Our final game of day 1 was a tired game against RIT Spuds. They had a total of 2 subs and they were tired as all fuck. They took half 8-1 and i played 5 straight points up to half, I would have kept going but 4 points after half i layed out for a pass but i hit my head and dropped the pass that was in my hand. That was a big mistake it was in my hand and i dropped it. I can promise you this, that will never happen again. We lost the game 15-5 i believe.
Day 2 can be summed in one word, SHORT. Everything we did was short, the field we played on was short, the game we played against oneonta was short, our players were short against theirs and our short game was where it was at, at least for our team. Im not sure our short game was that great but i know that our deep game was lacking if it wasnt for Eli. That man caught almost everything we threw at him, and the ones he didnt catch were not his fault at all. o BTW we lost to Oneonta 13-idk it doesnt matter, they took us more seriously this time around and they werent dicks this time around.
I didnt play that well this weekend, i noticed that i was very slow ad that my throws were definitely not good. I think its a mental problem that i have to walk on, if its not a mental problem then idk what else it is.
Views on Next Year:
For the team next year i feel as though we need to work on flow and getting open. I know its not that simple but it is as simple as watching the handlers and cutters and seeing where the disc is moving and cutting to the side of the field that the disc is moving to. We have to teach the team to be able to recognize zone and disc movement, we have to be able to watch the disc and see which side of the field the disc is moving to the cut appropriately. Another thing is that we have to finish our cuts and cycle through and move back into the stack. After that we need to work on the basics and get good throws and work on stamina and running speed. I have a few ideas for drills but im not sure if they are good enough. o well, i guess we will see next year
